The process

The application will be certified by an officer from your agency and authorised by your employer before the application is processed.

Once your application has been received by DTEI, it will be sent to the housing manager for your area. The housing manager will then compare your requirements against available vacant housing and match your needs.

You will then receive an offer of housing and contact details for the agent holding the keys. On your arrival in the location, the agent will hand over the keys and arrange an inspection of the residence. If you accept the property you will be asked to sign a Residential Tenancy Agreement and 'Tenant Movement Advice' form to establish tenancy and commence rental deductions.

If you reject the offer of housing, you may either seek alternative unsubsidised housing from the private sector, or appeal to your housing manager against the housing allocation decision. The only grounds for appeal are those where a clear breach of the Allocation Policy is evident (see below for the policy).

Please Note: On the 'Application for accommodation' form, you are asked to advise of an anticipated date of arrival at your new locality. Once you have accepted the housing offered, you must occupy that residence within seven (7) days of the anticipated date of arrival, or the allocation will be revoked and you will need to reapply for accommodation.
