Building Management's Adelaide office is moving
In September and October this year Building Management staff located in Wakefield House, 30 Wakefield Street, Adelaide and some at Walkerville will relocate to 211 Victoria Square, Adelaide.
The move will take place in two stages:
Stage 1 - from Monday 29 September 2008 most staff from Accommodation and
Property Services and Business Services will have moved
Stage 2 - from Monday 20 October 2008 staff from the Executive Director's office,
Project Services, Strategic Services and all other staff will have moved.
The address will be Level 2, 211 Victoria Square, Adelaide.
The postal address has already changed to: GPO Box 967, Adelaide, SA, 5001 while the DX number is 967.
All other contact details remain the same.
Collaborative Design Commendation for the Port Augusta Courts
The Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) has awarded the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure’s Building Management team a Collaborative Design Commendation for its work on the $12.6 million Port Augusta Courts, on behalf of the Courts Administration Authority.
This month, Denis Harrison, Project Architect for the Port Augusta Courts project accepted a Collaborative Design Commendation from the RAIA. Criteria for this award is based on the architectural agency working collaboratively with an extended project team to achieve architectural excellence.
Building Management had overall responsibility for the architecture, risk management and cost management of the project and the project team included other South Australian contractors Viesturs Cielens Design, DesignInc, Bestec, VIPAC, Wallbridge and Gilbert and Candetti Constructions.
There were also five artists, three of whom were local indigenous people, who contributed to the unique artwork within the building and in the landscape.
The landscaping using plants indigenous to the region has since been established.

A shelter adjacent to the main building provides an outdoor waiting area and the opportunity for outdoor court sittings.

With generous overhangs to transparent and solid walls in response to the harsh summers of the region and in keeping with the local environment.

The need to provide light and views has been met with the use of large areas of glazing which provides views of enclosed, minimally landscaped courtyards as well as long views to Spencer Gulf and the Minburie Ranges.

The use of texture and colour throughout. Waiting spaces and courtrooms, some of which are organic in plan or form, are lined with acoustic timber panels which include a frieze reflecting indigenous origins and western settlement.

The Magistrates Courtroom departs from the conventional rectangular layout with a flexible organic space able to administer traditional (western) sittings and the roundtable of the Aboriginal court.
