Environmental Presentations
Mr Huston Eubank
On 4th June 2004 Building Management hosted a visit to Adelaide by eminent environmental architect Mr Huston Eubank who was in Australia under a Fulbright Scholarship. His visit was sponsored by DTEI in conjunction with the Capital City Committee, Green City Project and the Division for Climate Change and Sustainability (Premier and Cabinet) as an initiative of the Year of the Built Environment.
Huston Eubank has a research and consultancy role with the prestigious Rocky Mountain Institute since 1999. During his visit addressed a number of government and professional forums about sustainable outcomes resulting from integrated design whole systems thinking and environmental responsibility in the building procurement process. Presentations revolved around articulating the US Green Building Council publication, "Making the Business Case for High Performance Green Buildings" and advocacy for early consideration of environmental initiatives using charrette style workshops involving the entire project team.
Lisa Mattiessen
Lisa Mattiessen has undertaken seminal research into the cost of green compared to conventional buildings. Her research has found no correlation between cost and environmental performance, challenging the widely held view that green buildings cost more.
David Gottfried
In February 2006, DTEI Building Management seized the opportunity to host a visit to South Australia by David Gottfried, author and founding president of the US and World Green Building Councils and Lisa Matthiessen, a US based quantity surveyor with Davis Langdon who has researched the cost of going green.
David Gottfried President of the company WorldBuild based in California, USA, is a leading voice in the US on green buildings. He is the author of "Greed to Green", that documents his personal journey from real estate developer to founding father of the green building movement. The theme of David's presentation to government and professional forums including the Property Council of SA focused on developments in the US green building market and the factors driving this extraordinary growth.
